Well it's January and time for the cows to party, well
host the party this time, it is our main rally of the year and now a
‘teenager’, and proving to be as popular as ever.
The site crew soon had the control tent and marquee up
ready for the first of the rally goers that started to arrive by early
afternoon. The weather
was on our side with no sign of the white stuff
that had been around the previous week.
The bar opened and the TDB disco kicked the hall into
life, ready for the band of the night 'Gordon Bennet Band' to start. The
band soon had the hall rocking playing a good set, then it was back to
the disco till the bar had to close then it was out to enjoy the BBQ and
tinnies round the brazier before staggering to our tents for a chilly
nap in an artic thick sleeping bag, (well it is a winter rally). The
daylight morning arrived a bright winter morning to greet the rather
sore head that wondered off to the club house for breakfast.
Then folks did what they normally do, catch up, have a
browse around the trade stalls, or wonder off to town. There was a ride
out for those who felt up to it, led by Simon. There were some silly
games in the clubhouse, a game of noughts and crosses and then a rather
hotly contested game of silly hats.
The disco kicked off again before the first of the two
bands for the night’s entertainment. First up was Face Ache who was
followed by Mohawk. Then the disco played till closing time for the bar,
then a stagger to the BBQ once more before the last silly game of where
is my bloody tent gone.
All in all an another successful rally judging by some of
the feed back we received from the departing rally goers.
It's one of those things you do get to notice as you pack
up the site, the bikes heading for home, loaded with all the weekends
gear, makes you think how strange a bunch we look to non biking people,
travelling all over the place bikes loaded like packhorses, to a field,
to pitch up to party, then do the pack
up and head home with sore heads,
till the next do. Still like someone once answered a question "if I had
to explain you wouldn’t understand".
Time for us cows to get out and about and enjoy others
efforts and get ready for the Moo Summer in June, like the Mad Cow but
no need for the artic thick sleeping bags.
