Easter
Egg Run 2006 |
Early spring and time for a run out to blow away the winter cobwebs and for a good cause. In this case the Easter Egg Run for our friends at Scope, East Anglia Family Help Unit.
This time 101 bikes and 4 Trikes turned up, a record for us and the highest turnout in its history.
It was quite a sight to see so many bikes turn up, and while they were arriving it gave all a chance to mix and admire the variety of bikes, and quite a variety too. Cruisers, Sports, Naked, Trial and a couple of Classics too.
We all had the pre run briefing, then the news that Bury MAG had been awarded the
chairman’s shield for outstanding contribution to MAG.
We all formed up ready for the off and when all the bikes where started up you could feel the vibration.

Then it was off for the run out for a ride around some of Suffolk’s countryside before getting to the unit.
Quite a sight too, it was certainly enjoyed by the folks doing the gardens.
The run marshalling system adopted by Herb managed to hold the run together, quite a feat for a large run. When we got to the unit some of the kids were there to welcome us, before we went in for coffee and nibbles they had a chance to look around at the bikes (and Trikes). Then it was form a queue and quite a long one too with the headcount being close to the 130 and leave the eggs on the tables before grabbing a coffee, and mixing some more.
The egg table grew as large as the eyes on some of the kids who where there and it formed quite a pile. Bikers being generous types quite a few brought more than one egg, which is just as well as the unit has 70 children on its books.
The staff at Scope were well pleased with the turnout and although they couldn’t thank everybody enough for their generosity. It’s nice to know that an enjoyable ride out and a chocolate egg can mean so much.

Some then made their way home, some to other engagements, but about half of us went off to the British Sugar Sports and Social Club for a spot of lunch and a drink and to chill for a bit.
All in all a good day out, a fantastic turnout, good weather and an excellent (eggsellent?) route. It was also good to see Roger turn up still supporting the run he organised on his own for so long.
Thanks to Bowers Motorcycles for collecting eggs for us and dealing with some of the enquires, and to Lacy Scotts for letting us use their car park to meet.
And well done to Simon and John for planning the route.
